First thing to note is that this is entirely my personal opinion. I hold none responsible for this. The world has gone gaga over Nobel Prize Winner Amartya Sen criticising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Apparently this saga has rolled on further as BJP went on to ask Amartya Sen to hand over the prestigious Bharat Ratna which he was awarded in 1999. Read this for more on this sorry-story.
For me, I find absolutely nothing wrong in Amartya Sen criticising Modi. In the first place, let this be known that this was entirely his private opinion. Everyone is entitled to his own private opinions. And mind you, the Indian constitution does not necessarily require the opinions to mtch with well-held popular beliefs. Added: Amartya Sen was simply asked if he wanted to see Namo as the PM.
And he didn’t.
What else could he have said? What else could anyone have said who disliked Narendra Modi? And as I read somewhere earlier today: ‘Belief in NAMO’ is not a criteria for the Bharat Ratna!’ So let’s keep it to that.
