Ajmal Kasab need no introduction and surely not to the Indians. Today, as I surfed the internet I came across varied comments on the web about the hanging that has taken 4 long years, thanks to our ever-lasting strong democratic procedures that have been in practice since independence over here. Democracy that can take four long years to pass a single judgement on a person no less than a terrorist caught red-handed, and someone who was directly involved in the biggest conspiracy of the decade against India, but can lead to immediate arrests over comments against politicians either on social media or in the hands of cartoonists.
And supposedly so, it’d be mere foolery to say that I’m not happy or excited to know about the hanging (I go on to say that whoever claims the opposite is either not sane or is a religion-fanatic). These couple of weeks had thus been witness to two of the most hyped up deaths – those of Mr.Thackeray and Ajmal Kasab.
Debates have gone on like wild fire since the death of one of the most controversial characters of Indian Politics Bal Keshav Thackeray. What stunned me the most was how can the world go gaga with something as a natural death for a person – no matter who he is. This decade has seen many such deaths of celebrities from Rajesh Khanna to Mr.Thackeray being the most recent but hardly do I remember such madness, hypocrisy and frenzy over such a thing. Yes, he may be one of the most influential persons of Mumbai, but let’s not forget he died a natural death out of old-age. Added to all of these, the single-most important thing that seems to have popped up is – whether his way of life was right or wrong!
I came across many such posts on Facebook. My answer to all of them – ‘Does it matter’?
Face it, he was not a Swami Vivekananda, a Lord Buddha or a Jesus Christ.
He was no where near to them either.
So why waste time on such unproductive arguments? Who literally cares whether he was right or wrong.
More importantly, face the facts that his supporters have tried on endlessly to curb freedom of speech – where were the two girls wrong when they questioned the abrupt frenzy that I pointed out earlier – Mumbai shuts down just because someone died? That too, a natural death?? DID THEY SHUT DOWN TO COMMEMORATE THE DEATH OF THE YOUNG GUNS ON 26/11/2008? Anyone claiming the affirmative may please note down that Mumbai remained nonoperational in that time due to shock, terror and handicaps. Yes, they paid a tribute – but SHUT DOWN?
Finally the drama of the year is still to unfold as Indo-Pak Cricket comes on live this December – a month later after the hanging of a Pakistani terrorist. And seriously speaking, does maintaining bilateral ties with a state like Pakistan, where Government Agencies continue to perpetuate cross-border terrorism make any sense, let alone improving them through playing Cricket! It’s a public secret that Pakistan assists terrorism in all ways, and correspondingly helps them to agitate against India. 4 years back when 26/11 happened India boycotted playing Pakistan, what happened that they forgot all the wounds of Tukaram Ombale and Hemant Karkare in these four years – that they went on to ‘improve’ their bilateral ties. Is it such that ONLY ELECTIONS AND VOTE BANKS matter? The martyrs laid down their lives fighting only to face stupids questioning why the country made such a big deal about 26/11?
Unfortunately enough those stupids form our Rajya Sabha, our cabinet – and the same persons who literally beg friendship from their neighbor so that their vote-banks are not disturbed – so that they continue to enjoy the air-conditioned offices and luxury of 5-Star Hotels at public cost – who cares if some pygmies die in some sort of mass fighting under the banner of fighting terrorism?
Hi,
Wonder if you’d love to take a re-look at this. World is crazy with fanaticism from Islam.
