Continuing from the reminiscence of my two posts on “faith” and “Abstractness” I’m currently stuck with lots off muddled thinking to ponder about. I was thinking for quite some time to write about a senior dada of mine (not exactly about him, but the people who stays in his house on rent). I was wondering how we “Indians” like being dominated and controlled by others, even after 65 years of independence. I was wondering about my own tribe of Bengali people who, as I’ve already mentioned in my previous blog posts will never change from their bad habits – be it having low ambitions or following the herd, students and guardians and teachers alike. I’ve repeatedly mentioned people showing obnoxious addictions in idiotic and unproductive areas as social networks, gossips, adda’s and the like. I’m again sick and tired of how people react when they are asked to do something normally excluded from their course curricula. I’m still shocked about the narrow mindset of parents who will not allow their children to follow his own dreams and will end up in nipping in the buds some jubilant talents. I’m surprised and rather bewildered at the number of ways that we end up creating to waste our valuable time. I’m amazed at how ignorant people can be on various issues concerning deeper thinking and something that cannot really be had out-of-the-box. I’m surprised at the attitude that people show towards charity – they pretend as if they cannot afford to spend a penny more than their routine expenditures – and yet do not forget to wear the most expensive sarees at the marriage parties.
The worst part remains when you tell them these facts they become angry. Fools do not like to be called fools. If you tell someone that he is ignorant, he may viciously assault you even if he may not have read a single book after college. Speaking about Indians, we have been termed as a slave species in many aspects, and as the great likes of Tagore, Swami Vivekananda and others have repeatedly shown us the path of the rising, we have failed to follow them. We have crossed centuries, and till date Mt.Everest remains named in the name of a Britisher who searched high and low to get a good mathematician to do his job. Till date, we go on showing the people that we were slaves to the British and in no way this can be accepted that the talent of our Bengali mathematician was never acknowledged in the true sense of the term. Corruption has eaten away our glory and till date no one has the guts to stand up and protest against these hooligan rulers. Those who do single-handed are murdered brutally (See Satyendra Dubey murder case – here). How very shameful that 1,170,938,000 people can’t overthrow 500 corrupt ministers. Why not rise up in unity? No one seems a bit concerned about these – they are merry-making with their children studying in engineering colleges as if that’s the only thing they were born for. Speaking of unity – in 1947 there was one Britisher in India for every 1,000 Indians (300 million Indians, 300,000 Britishers). Still we took over 200 years to drive them away, let alone the controversies that they left on their own.
Till date people accused in rape cases go on unpunished due to their links with the neta‘s of our country. Till date the Police of our country do not pay any heed to the poor – even if they are assaulted by the rich, the policemen does literally everything to show off their faithfulness to their masters – again the corrupt bureaucrats and politicians. India continues to be seen as a third-world country without any significant development. Till date we go on spending lakhs and lakhs on IPL tickets, sponsers and other things – with all our Khans and the Ambanis, our country should have been pretty developed and our poor people should not have been dying out of hunger, illness and other things, thanks to their stoic nature, they feel less for the poor, if at all they feel anything. India continues to be a country of superstitions and illiteracy. Incidents born out of pure ignorance and blind-beliefs like believing on the Baba‘s, witches, evils borne out of having female children continue in the villages. The Panchayats and NGO’s try their best with very little to boast about. Literacy Programs across the country suffer due to shortage of funds on many occasions, but receive almost no donations from the people who, I believe can really make a difference – the big names of our country obviously. People will find it very convenient to spend 50 lakhs of rupees on scotch and other drinks for their IPl teams, but will deter themselves from running any productive campaign aimed for the development of our country.
Personally speaking, I believe we have the resources. The problem that lies ahead is two-fold and needs to be considered in a similar fashion. Corruption has definitely crawled and murdered the holy dreams that Indians had long back when the Bhagat Sings and Netaji’s gave us freedom. Indians have developed a bad habit of criticizing mercilessly without suggesting any solutions. Technology, I believe, can yield us a solution. Why are we afraid? Of whom are we afraid? Of the Neta’s? Forget them, they can’t even stand without a support! Why can’t we just root the cause of corruption? Transparency has been a problem in our society. The taxpayers money is being channelized into various streams – that is all what is being shown to us. What happens to that money ultimately is something which we perhaps do not have the rights to know. They are either spent on staying in 5-star Hotels or travelling in private jets. The government does not forget to spend millions on “Sponsering Vivekananda Chair” – but never live up to the ideals preached by that person. Coming back to the two-fold system of problems, the media nowadays also start their own affiliations towards certain political parties. Ultimately – we develop Agni 5, Shopping Malls, Highways, but forget the people who make up 50% of our population – the poor, the hungry, the illiterate. When the money meant for erasing out such evils is being spent on staying in 5-Star Hotels, God help this country – God help us!
